A Gi's Story.

I try to avoid posting links to other websites here, even for articles I have written. Instead, I copy and paste the entire article here for you to read. This is a different case. While not directly concerning veteran's issues, it does reflect on the benefit of a career in the military for a Black family in the days before the Civil Rights movement.
The article here is about my parents. My father is retired Army. Joining the service changed his life. That one decision affected everything my family has done so far and will ever do. In addition, my mother contributed in significant ways to the success of the family with her quiet strength and steady guidance. The two of them had no reason to expect a great life but they knew anything was better than what awaited them in Memphis. They also knew that together, they could do anything.
I think you will enjoy this small article.

Morgan, My thanks to your
Morgan,
My thanks to your father for his service to America... as well as his devotion to his family and perseverence throughout what could only be called 'the trials of being unpopular' (in whatever guise).
With your permission, I would like to repost your web page elsewhere to illustrate that opportunities are and have always been available for anyone with the personal ambition to aspire for a better life and willing to work to achieve it... based on individual merit and effort... regardless of societally imposed obstacles.

Gunner, I retain the rights to all of my articles posted here or on Helium.com. Go ahead and repost as long as my by-line remains intact (Morgan Johnson). The new article about teens gong in the military might also be of use. Consiger putting a link to this home page to increase traffic to our site.

Amazing parents
Your parents have a wonderfully interesting history - it is amazing how good people living good lives can touch so many around them. Their legacy lives on.
