IF there is a saving grace of Vietnam.................

OK, I have been mulling this one over for a few days (about 13,505 of 'em)and wanna throw this one out there.
IF there is a Saving Grace about Vietnam, is it that our "Defeat" gave the Bad Guys the notion that they COULD indeed take over the World because the politicans and citizens (note the use of lower case)of the US ran (really fast) away. Because of that notion the Bad Guys then proceeded to vastly over-extend themselves, eventually leading to the collapse of the good Ole USSR and mass confusion among their allies. THEREBY giving the Good Guys and great (second or third or umteenth) chance at actually exporting freedom to other places. Which "we" are on the verge of blowing again, by the way. Have at it...............thanx
IF there is a saving grace of Vietnam................
Yea, I guess it would be about 13,505 if you came back in 1970.... Many of you are talking about our final decline in the past tense. I don't believe we are finished yet... remember the oath we all took.. I still feel it is up to us to protect and defend the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. (that includes ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and other defeatist one sided news agencies).... Contintue to spread the good word ab out what the US of A is all about... Let's not talk like we are defeated... get out there and do what you all do so well..... Talk......... Next years election is only 12 months away..... don't want those cry babies to take the white house, do you??????????????? Everyday, take the truth of the war, and the good works our men and women of uniform are doing to the public.... every chance you get...... Then those whose names are on the wall in DC won't be rolling over, but shouting..... OoooRaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Abandoning Vietnam
I think our brothers in arms whose names are inscribed on, "The Wall" would be disgusted to see what weaklings and crybabies Americans have become.
I believe America went from "The Greatest Generation" to the "Worst generation" in "One Generation"
I really feel if Americans were the same during WW II, as they are now, we would be speaking German today.
vietnam
i still hear the comments about the us military losing the war. this is all hogwash. we pounded them so bad they were crying to get us back to paris and sign the peace accords. well we did and pulled out all of our forces. south vietnam fell because the damn democrates cut off all aid to the south. thats why the south fell. no ammo no fuel. its the same damn thing the dumbacraps are trying to do in iraq.
A Saving Grace
AMEN!... I truly don't believe you waited so long to put your thoughts to paper. Actually, I think our downfall began in Korea. Since no clear victory was gained we're still fighting that battle with the North Koreans. Just a bit of a different slant to your writings.
We lost the military in Korea.
In World War II the politicians listened to the military leadership. With Korea when Truman fired General Mac Arthur the junior officers learned that in order to advance you give the civilian leadership what ever they want no matter how it effects the outcome. With Vietnam the junior officers learned to tell the politicians what ever they wanted to hear. For Desert Storm General Powell made them tell him when we completed his mission. When that was done we stopped. They say that we stopped to soon but when he accomplished his mission he stopped as he should have. If they wanted the military to go farther the civilian leadership should have said so. As it should be the military only does what it is told and if the legislators do not fund the operations or direct the withdrawal it is on the Congress's head if we fail. Remember that the Democrat's now control the funding.
We lost because we're Americans
Yes, the damn politicians screwed the pooch with continuous interference. Yes, damn officers screwed it up, because it was their only war and they had six months to make a career. We had bird Colonels landing in a helicopter in the middle of a squad fire fight to assist the SP-4 squad leader and then getting a silver star for it instead of a dumb shit award. Yes, the damn media gave away all our victories...aka TET. Yes, Jane Fonda was a war criminal. However, the main reason we lost is because we have a short attention span.
We lost the war because we're Americans. We're a do it now, finish it now country. We hate stop signs, stop lights and delays of all kinds. We'll fight a buzz saw, just bring it on, but don't expect us to stay at it for the long haul. I was a platoon leader in the Big Red One. After every big fire fight, I had my most difficult times keeping people from taking a break instead of maintaining security. I worked a lot with Patton's 11th armored Cav. The invincibles. They thumbed their nose at security. "We're the 11th Cav. They don't want none of us." I've helped dust off several invincibles unnecessarily. We quit as a nation in Vietnam, because it took too long. we quit as a nation in Korea. We pulled out short in the first Iraq war. We're in the process of pulling out of this one. It's no problem fighting the U.S. just hang around and they'll give up and go home.
