    Anniston Army Depot Surrounding Area

    In the Appalachian Mountains’ foothills, ANAD is roughly an hour-and-a-half way from Atlanta, GA, and about an hour drive from Birmingham, AL. The depot, covering over 25 square miles, is near Anniston, the county seat of Calhoun County. Established in 1940, ANAD transitioned from a forested space to a dense industrial area. Local attractions range from hiking at the adjacent Pelham Range of Fort McClellan to exploring the picturesque Appalachian Mountains.
