Being in the military is like nothing else. You have a new family that watches out for you while you're there, and sometimes, if an effort is made, after you leave. It gives you a sense of self and I can do anything like no other career or job can. A salute given or received is a sign of respect and thanks and appreciation where no words are necessary.
